The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) is an international organization that works as a solutions broker to catalyze action and support for adaptation solutions, from the international to the local, in partnership with the public and private sector, to ensure we learn from each other and work together for a climate resilient future. Adapting to impacts of climate change provides a “win-win” for health, livelihoods, food security, water supply, human security, and economic growth. The work of the GCA elevates the visibility and political importance of climate adaptation and facilitates solutions, such as smarter investments, new technologies and better planning to become more resilient to climate-related threats. GCA is a rapidly growing organization with offices in Abidjan, Beijing, Dhaka, Groningen, and Rotterdam.

Join us at the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) as Junior Program Officer - Water Resource Management and embark or continue your journey as climate adaptation expert. As part of the Water and Urban team, you will play a vital role in GCA’s mission as a solutions broker in the field of climate adaptation. You pro-actively support the team on a range of program activities under the African Adaptation Acceleration Program (AAAP) and in South Asia, with a specific focus on climate resilient water resource management. You support the procurement and implementation of technical assistance projects, manage contracts and partnerships, and other exciting tasks. You will collaborate closely with experts from all over the world, gain exposure to diverse (GCA) programs, and enjoy field visits to deepen your impact. Your work shapes and realizes climate adaptation strategies for urban resilience at scale that work for all. We value diversity and inclusivity, offering a supportive and empowering work environment for all team members.

Under the oversight of the Director of Programs, and directly reporting to the Global Lead Water and Urban, you will support the implementation of a pipeline of technical assistance projects in the area of climate resilient water resource management, that shapes and expands GCA’s partnerships with Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), such as the African Development Bank and World Bank, to drive and scale up on-the-ground adaptation acceleration and create space and energy for innovation. This includes:

  • Supporting the procurement and oversight of highly innovative and transformative technical assistance projects to water-related climate adaptation and climate resilient water governance investment projects and programs of MDB’s.
  • Providing hands-on and practical support to the team in the development of the project pipeline, procurement, progress tracking, and reporting.
  • Supporting the preparation of knowledge products – e.g., briefs, presentations, reports – on GCA’s activities.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
