The UNDP Nordic Representation Office (UNDP NRO) is a decentralized function of the UNDP Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy, which is responsible for partnerships and external communications. The main office is located in Copenhagen with satellite offices located in Oslo, Stockholm and Helsinki. UNDP NRO plays a lead role in managing, continuously nurturing and strengthening UNDP’s partnership with the Nordic member states and their national constituencies with the overall aim of positioning UNDP as a development partner of choice, mobilising resources and building political support for the SDGs, UNDP’s strategic mandate and work throughout the world. 

UNDP NRO also contributes to raising awareness of current global development challenges and opportunities, and to an informed and evidence-based development debate in the Nordic counties. To this end, UNDP NRO pursues effective communications outreach and advocacy to targeted stakeholders, arrange high-level and technical international missions, and organises and contributes to relevant meetings, seminars and conferences on topical development issues. 

UNDP NRO Denmark is located within the UN City in Copenhagen, which currently accommodates eleven UN agencies with a shared vision to strengthen multilateralism and to deliver on UN reforms through joint collaboration and advocacy when relevant. UNDP NRO forms part of the UN team and plays an active role including in the UN City Interagency Communications Team.

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Partnership Specialist and NRO Team Lead for Denmark, the Communications Analyst will lead the daily work on external communications in Denmark, including support for the development and implementation of a targeted external communication strategy for UNDP Denmark and related communications effort. 
 

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement an external communication strategy for UNDP Denmark;
  2. Strengthen UNDP Denmark’s social media platforms (twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram) and website and increase number of followers and engagements.
  3. Support NRO Team Lead for Denmark in media and external communications outreach activities (pitching stories and interviews to media, conceptualize and organize meetings and public events, joint UN activities etc.)
  4. Identify, develop, design and distribute relevant communications materials, campaigns and products targeted relevant Danish constituencies.
  5. Contribute to knowledge building and knowledge sharing within the team and among external target groups.
  6. Support the NRO Team Lead for Denmark as required to further position UNDP as a development partner of choice in Denmark.
  7. Contribute to the coordination and strengthening of the overall strategic communication outreach in the Nordic countries.

Required Skills and Experience

 
Education:
  • Postgraduate university degree in international development, political science, communications, journalism or related field.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 4 years experience with Bachelor degree and 2 years with Masters degree in the field of international development, communications or a related field or equivalent professional experience

Required skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in public diplomacy, advocacy, communications, media outreach, and SoMe
  • Solid understanding of international development issues and knowledge of the UN system
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team as well as independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Danish and English
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Computer literate in standard software applications and ability to use current social media and web 2.0 tools
  • Demonstrates integrity by modelling the UN’s values and ethical standards.
  • Ability to promotes the vision, mission, and strategic goals of UNDP
  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability;

Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section

  • Prior work experience with UN or UNDP preferable
  • Practical experience of working with InDesign and video editing an advantage 
  • Experience in partnership engagement with Ministries of Foreign Affairs, MPs, civil society and other relevant partners;
  • Experience with public diplomacy, advocacy and communications campaigns 
  • Experience in multi-stakeholder coordination, organising of public events and high-level missions.

Language: Fluency in spoken and written English and Danish
